At least if I can believe the emails in my junk box. Of course, this is a nice example of phishing email, trying to scare people and get them to pay a ransom fee to restore the peace of mind…

Let’s take a look at the used bitcoin addresses:

The first email links to a bitcoin address that has 1.06726589 BTC in the wallet (at 13Nov2018), good for ~ € 6000, just in two days. Source.

The second email is older, from 24th October 2018 and mentions a Bitcoin wallet with a total of 1.70054385 BTC, or almost € 10.000 (using rate at 13Nov2018). The wallet seems to be emptied by the friendly hacker. Source.

Not a bad earning, but still amazed why people are paying after receiving an anonymous email. Maybe because the emails has a lot of (nonsense) technical details in them?

Wondering how many bitcoin addresses are in use for this operation…
